Jashore University of Science and Technology

Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a public university in Jashore, established in 2007 and formerly spelled Jessore University of Science and Technology. In 2023 it had 5,387 students and 350 teachers, 105 of them with a PhD.

The university was established on 25 January 2007. It opened for the 2008-2009 session, and the first batch began classes on 10 June 2009. The name was changed from Jessore to Jashore University of Science and Technology in 2018.

Growth has been fast. Students numbered 3,367 in 2021, 4,714 in 2022 and 5,387 in 2023, and first-year admissions rose from 347 in 2021 to 1,317 in 2022 and 1,353 in 2023.

Wikipedia calls JUST the first public university in Jessore and the fourth in Khulna Division. The first four departments were Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental Science and Technology, Microbiology, and Fisheries and Marine Bioscience. Five more departments, among them Industrial and Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, were added in 2009, Pharmacy in 2010, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2012. On 7 March 2023 the Board of Regents made the Jhenaidah Government Veterinary College the university's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

First-year admission is competitive, and the university has been admitting more students each year: 1,353 in 2023 compared with 1,317 in 2022.

Wikipedia notes 42 additional seats reserved for children of freedom fighters (30), indigenous students (6) and students with disabilities (6), each requiring a supporting certificate.

JUST has 29 departments in eight faculties and offers programmes from undergraduate level to doctorate. The academic year has two semesters of 18.5 weeks each.

Ulkaa's programme list for 2027 carries three entries with confirmed pages: B.Sc. (Engg.) in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm). Engineering departments such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Petroleum and Mining Engineering offer the BSc in Engineering, with MSc, M.Engg., MPhil and PhD routes listed on Wikipedia. Science departments award the BS, MS, MPhil and PhD, and the business departments the BBA and MBA.

The main campus covers about 45 acres on Sadhinata Sarak at Churamonkati, with an additional Jhenaidah campus.

Four halls provide beds for around 2,500 students. Shaheed Moshiur Rahman Hall takes 500 men and Munshi Meherullah Hall 1,000 men. Tapashi Rabeya Hall takes 500 women and Bir Protik Taramon Bibi Hall 1,000 women. Clubs and events are listed on the official website.

Kabi Nazrul Academic Building, the first academic building, houses three faculties and thirteen departments with research labs such as a genome centre and a bioinformatics lab. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building houses two faculties and eleven departments.
