Gopalganj Science and Technology University

Gopalganj Science and Technology University (GSTU) is a public university in Gopalganj, in Dhaka Division. It was established in 2011 and carried the name Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University until January 2025. The President of Bangladesh serves as its Chancellor.

Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027 places GSTU at position 26 among Bangladeshi universities. For an applicant, the main attraction is range. A single campus offers engineering, agriculture, veterinary science, business, arts and law, which is unusual for a university of this age.

The idea of GSTU goes back to 1999, when the government planned a group of science and technology universities. The Gopalganj Science and Technology University Act was passed on 8 July 2001, and the foundation stone was laid in the same period. A change of government in 2002 stopped the project, and it stayed on hold for several years.

Work resumed in 2009 and the university began academic activity in 2011. For most of its life it was known as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University. In January 2025 the name changed to Gopalganj Science and Technology University, which is the name used by the University Grants Commission today.

The campus stands at Gobra on about 55 acres. Today the campus has an academic building, an administrative building and five student halls, and the university has eight faculties and 31 departments according to public sources.

GSTU admits undergraduate students through competitive admission tests held by the university, with separate tests for faculties. Applications open on the official admission site and the university announces the circular each year. Eligibility depends on the faculty, so read the circular for your own.

The university enrols roughly 1,500 undergraduate students a year according to public sources, so competition is real. Preparing for the subject groups of your target faculty matters more than preparing generally.

GSTU has also built a visible research record for its size. The data show 581 research works in 2025 and 2,227 over the five years to 2025, with 28,027 citations in that window.

The Gobra campus has an academic building, an administrative building and five residential halls, three for male students and two for female students. The Ekushey February Library Centre opened in 2014 and is the main study space.

Gopalganj is a district town rather than a large city, so students who want a big-city environment should weigh that before choosing GSTU. Hall seats are limited, so ask the university or current students about residence before you plan your accommodation.
