How the Ulkaa Edu Rank works

Overview

Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) is a private university at Love Road, Tejgaon, in Dhaka. It was established in 1995 by the Dhaka Ahsania Mission, a non-profit voluntary organisation founded in 1958 by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.

Where it stands in the rankings

Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027 places AUST at position 27. The position is computed from the published Ulkaa methodology rather than from an opinion. In the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, AUST is ranked 518, which is the 17th position among Bangladeshi institutions in that table. AUST has no THE World 2027 entry stored on Ulkaa.

Quick facts

  • Type: private university
  • Location: Tejgaon, Dhaka
  • Established: 1995
  • Programmes listed by Ulkaa for 2027: 20
  • Students in 2023: 6,217, with 1,974 new admissions that year
  • Teachers with a PhD in 2023: 119

AUST is best known for engineering and architecture. Its profile is closer to a technical institute than to a general university, and most applicants come for a specific engineering or architecture degree.

The Dhaka Ahsania Mission began in 1958 as a social service organisation, and Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah is its founder. The mission later moved into education, and AUST opened in 1995 as a private university.

The university is named after its founder. The university later built its own permanent campus at Tejgaon. Public sources describe that campus as the first permanent campus built by a private university in Bangladesh, a ten-storey building with basement levels and a floor area of more than 400,000 square feet.

Over the years AUST added programmes in architecture, engineering, business and education, and several of its engineering programmes were later accredited by professional bodies.

Admission

Each programme sets its own entry requirements, so read the circular for the specific degree you want, especially for architecture and engineering.

The university enrolled 1,974 new students in 2023 across all programmes, so there are more seats than at most public universities in the same fields, but the better-known departments still fill early.

Admission circulars, dates and eligibility are published each term on the official website, http://www.aust.edu. Check there before applying.

Programs

Ulkaa lists 20 programmes at AUST for 2027. The main academic areas are:

  • Architecture and Planning, with Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture programmes
  • Engineering, covering Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering and Textile Engineering
  • Business and Social Science, with BBA and MBA programmes
  • Education

Accreditation is a strong point. The data on Ulkaa show six programmes accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) as of 2026. The university is also described in public sources as recognised by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, and the Institute of Architects Bangladesh, and by the Washington Accord.

Research output is modest in volume but steady. Ulkaa records 736 works in 2025 and 2,604 over the five years to 2025, with 26,927 citations in that period. Engineering accounts for the largest share of those works.

A notable name connected with AUST is Professor Saifur Rahman, who became the first IEEE president from South Asia in 2021, according to public sources.

Research and campus life

The campus is a single urban tower on about 1.5 acres in Tejgaon, close to central Dhaka. That means good access by road and public transport, but little open space. Students spend time in classrooms, labs, the library and the corridors between them rather than on a sprawling green campus.

Because the university is compact, most activity is organised around departments and their classes and labs.

If you prefer a residential campus with large grounds, AUST will feel tight. If you want a city location and short travel to internships and industry, the position is an advantage.
